Basswood
Basswood has inherent qualities that make it the first and best choice for fine quality shutters. Basswood is a North American hardwood species harvested from renewable forests. The wood itself is has a tight grain, is structurally stable, and lightweight. Basswood is commonly used for shutters throughout the world as well as wood blinds and other window treatments that require a lightweight and stable material.

Basswood is versatile and can be painted or stained. Wasatch Shutter Design does not substitute lower quality wood for our paint grade shutters. For more information see our FAQ page.

Choose from one of our fifteen standard paint or stain colors or have us create a custom paint or stain color to match your woodwork, cabinetry or interior décor.

Alder
Over the past several years Alder has become a major component in the wood finishing elements of new homes along the Wasatch Front. Likewise Alder shutters have been a rapidly growing segment of shutter styles along, making it a great choice for a rustic stained look.

Although due to its radical grain and knots Alder is a more difficult wood to work with, Wasatch Shutter Design is the leader in manufacturing Alder shutters to accommodate the look in your home. We’ve become very efficient and have learned the techniques necessary to successfully utilize this beautiful wood species.

For those who want to maintain a consistent look and feel in their home, Alder is a great choice.

Specialty woods
Over the past 10 years, we have manufactured shutters from a vast selection of specialty woods. Oak, Maple, Walnut, Mahogany, Hickory, Cherry, Pine, VG Fir and others are all woods we have experience working with. If you require a hard to find species of wood, Wasatch Shutter Design is your source.

Thermalite / ultratech
At Wasatch Shutter Design we manufacture two (2) different lines of solid synthetic material based shutters. Thermalite and Ultratech are extremely durable, waterproof, and flame resistant. They are actually constructed of a painted material that does not shrink or expand and is guaranteed not to yellow over time. Thermalite and Ultratech shutters are great for the whole home, especially for areas where moisture may be commonly present or possibly for a garage, where more moisture would be used for cleaning.
Again, Thermalite and Ultratech are solid materials, unlike hollow plastic shutters available in the shutter industry.

MDF/HDF
Although MDF / HDF Shutters are made from wood by-products (waste), they are not really wood. MDF / HDF shutters provide a smooth surface making them great for painting.

"I have been so pleased with how your company took exceptional care of us from the start to finish with our window coverings, that I have referred their name to various family and friends whom we know. The many people, whom I have referred, have all used Wasatch Shutter Design as their choice for window coverings."
